Molly Hueffed: See Molly’s beautiful ceramics–and work from many other ceramicists–at the Jefferson Community Center Ceramics Sale, 1600 South Dakota Street, Seattle (on the east edge of Jefferson Park) at Friday’s preview sale, 5-8:30pm, and on Saturday, 10am-4pm.

Molly is also part of Seward Park Clay Studio Holiday Show, starting with a preview on Friday, 6:30-9:30pm ($10 suggested donation) and continuing through December 24. (Hours: Monday – Friday, noon-7pm; Saturday & Sunday 10am-6pm. Free entry.)

Head to the Phinney Neighborhood Association Winter Festival this weekend where both Christine Stoll Jewelry and Wish Poosh Designs will be Saturday & Sunday, 10am–5pm. Christine will bring her reinvented and repurposed vintage and found object jewelry, and Aiko and Poul will bring their collaborative work, as well as Aiko’s kiln-formed glass garden art, tableware, and home decor items, and Poul’s hand carved masks and bowls created from reclaimed woods and natural fibers. 

Tiarani Studio: In the Redmond Town Center Winter Market , look for Tia Samsi‘s elegant batik scarves and whimsical ceramics in the old Border’s space on the corner of 74th and 166th, Saturday & Sunday, 10am-6pm.

Steph Mader:  For a fun studio experience, check out the North End Arts Tour, Friday 4-9pm; Saturday & Sunday, 10am-5pm. Tour six Seattle homes and studios, each location with multiple artists. Steph will be at Site #1, Seymour Stained Glass Studio, 5415 Greenwood Ave N, Seattle–just off Phinney by the Woodland Park Zoo. She’ll be showing her particle glass landscapes and also offering some great deals on her sgraffito glass!

Theresa Neinas: On Saturday from 2 to 9pm, printmaker Theresa is just one of many talented artists at the South Park Arts 10th Annual Art Under $100, to be held this year at its new location in the Seattle Design Center in Georgetown, 5701 6th Ave S, Seattle. Featuring artists representing a variety of media, along with art raffles, beer & wine, food trucks, live DJs, and the Makery.

Glass Elements: If you’re in the San Francisco Bay Area, be sure to visit Marja at the Triton Museum of Art‘s Holiday Gift Fair in Santa Clara on Friday, 5:30pm-9pm, and Saturday, 10am-5pm. On Sunday, 12-3pm, Marja will be at the AMS Arts & Crafts Fair in Albany, CA.

Molly Hueffed: Want to see some artist studios and wonderful art, as well as take a nice drive in the country this weekend? Check out the Snoqualmie River Arts Tour, which includes Molly’s new pottery inspired by Aboriginal art. She will be at Cynthia Gerdes‘s studio, Fall City Wax Works, 35 292nd Ave NE, Fall City, from 10am to 6pm both Saturday and Sunday.  [Side note: Cynthia was featured in one of the Art & Sustainability shows I curated at Sightline Institute.]

Sweet Coconut Bakery: Hazel will be at the Fremont Fair again this year. Her booth will be located in south end of the Phinney Block, where she was last year. Saturday, 10am-8pm; Sunday, 11am-6pm.

In addition, this week Hazel officially announced her family’s move back to California later this summer:

“Later this summer, my family and I are moving back to California. There will be a short hiatus as we look for a commercial kitchen and obtain the necessary permits. Our target time for reopening is mid October. In the meantime, we are committed to vend at a few more festivals and fairs (http://www.sweetcoconutbakery.com/p/markets-and-shows.html). And we are taking online orders until July 10th. Thank you!”

Glass Elements: As you may know, Marja moved to California last year, so I hope this isn’t a trend! Seriously though, the Bay Area is fortunate to have both of them. Marja is keeping busy–this weekend she will be part of an SF Etsy Pop-Up Shop, 5-9pm on Friday, June 20, at West Elm in Emeryville at 5602 Bay Street.

Theresa Neinas: On Saturday only, Theresa will be the Fremont Fair as well–over at the Seattle Art Car Blowout with her “One Way” prints for sale at $20 each.

And here’s a reminder about the Redmond Saturday Market, Saturdays, 9am-3pm:  Marilyn Rank (By Marilyn handbags) and Tiarani Samsi (Tiarani Studio ceramics and batiks) are on this season’s list of vendors there. You can see weekly booth assignments here to see when they will be there.

Anything else I should know about?

This year artEAST, Issaquah’s wonderful local non-profit arts organization, encouraged collaboration on the artwork submitted for the 150 Feet of Art Auction, and I collaborated with two artists to ultimately create a total of three pieces.

Michelle Brode and I proceeded by passing  the requisite 12″ x 12″ canvas back and forth to complete it. I created the background with torn paper from a flower-arranging guide and a couple glazes of color, from which Michelle determined the subject, adding her own carefully cut shapes from a photocopy of an interesting map. On the next pass, we had a short discussion on possible ways to complete it. Responding to Michelle’s focal point, I then finished the piece by adding more color as well as the butterfly wings to tie the piece together. The clear gems and a final radiating layer of acrylic self-leveling gel added dimension, and we titled it “Preservation.” All bidding is online, and you can bid on it here.

Liz Ruest summed up our process in a blog entry on her site. (Take a minute to go read it, and then come back. There you can view our original pieces as well as our two final pieces—click on each image to see a larger version.) Back on this page, I have added a few more photos of the process. As you can see, we decided to use circles within our basic grid idea. You can bid on “Depends on the Month” here and on “Healthy Tension” here.

What fun! Each collaboration was a completely different process and learning experience. It’s fascinating to see how our different styles got combined, and yet you can see the influences on each final piece.
